[Children's Health] 3 tips to help children check spinal problems. Transfer EOS with low ejaculation speed fast

[Children's Health] 3 tips to help children check spinal problems. Transfer EOS with low ejaculation speed fast

The spine side refers to the situation where the spine curves to the left or right and appears to be "C" or "S" type. This problem conceals about 3-3.5% of young people in Hong Kong. Like recent perspectives, the spine side is irreversible. Early discovery can help reduce the chance of malignancy, but how can parents know if there is a problem with their children's spine? You might as well listen to the opinions of professional doctors.

Scoliosis appears around the age of 10

In their daily work, specialist radiologists will examine many children who have been referred for scoliosis. Scoliosis is generally divided into congenital and sudden (primary). Congenital means that problems have already occurred in the fetus. For example, normal vertebrae may be rectangular, but they may be uneven and triangular, resulting in scoliosis. Sudden scoliosis has an unknown cause, but usually appears around puberty, generally around 10 years old.

What are the effects of scoliosis?

Scoliosis is mainly divided into mild, moderate and severe. Mild refers to a scoliosis angle between 10 and 20 degrees, which generally does not require relief measures; moderate refers to a scoliosis angle between 20 and 40 degrees, and the patient may need to wear an orthopedic waist brace for a long time to prevent the condition from getting worse. It can be removed when the bones stop growing in adulthood; if the angle is more than 40 degrees, it is serious and requires diagnosis and treatment by a specialist, and may require treatment.

The doctor added that there is currently no conclusive evidence that mild scoliosis will affect our physical health. Most patients will have cosmetic effects. For example, it will be particularly obvious when wearing tight clothes. The asymmetry of the body will affect the psychology of children. This aspect is believed to be the biggest impact.

EOS technology emits less radiation than traditional detection technology

With traditional 2D X-rays, children need to be scanned at least twice to cover the area from the upper body to the pelvis. By contrast, EOS, a French “standing full-body weight-bearing X-ray scan” technology, is currently the fastest method and requires only one scan to capture images of the spine and lower limbs. The entire process takes just 17 to 20 seconds. Many parents think of radiation as soon as they hear the words “X-ray.” However, EOS exposes patients to 60% to 90% less radiation than traditional 2D X-rays. A doctor explained, “During a single EOS examination, the radiation dose a child is exposed to is equivalent to the total amount received through 10 days of everyday life. This dose will not affect the child’s health in any way.” Therefore, if a child is diagnosed with moderate or severe scoliosis, they need to undergo examinations every four to six months. If traditional X-rays are used, the total amount of radiation they receive over their lifetime will be higher.

Currently providing EOS inspection services include:

1. Hong Kong Advanced Imaging

2. CUHK-PWH Medical Centre

3. HKU Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine

Observe the condition of children’s spine with simple movements

Generally speaking, cases using EOS examinations come from referrals, but some clinics will accept direct consultation from patients and will perform EOS examinations for patients if necessary. However, after parents learn about EOS and diagnose through school children's health care, doctors or professionals, and think that their children need further examinations, parents can try to make a referral for EOS examinations instead of traditional 2D X-rays! In addition to the low radiation dose and short time required for EOS, parents can also accompany their children into the room for examination. Unlike traditional 2D X-ray, some children are afraid of facing it by themselves and enter an unfamiliar room alone for examination. When children undergo EOS examinations, parents only need to wear radiation-proof protective clothing and then accompany their children in.

However, scoliosis is generally not easy to detect. Let me teach you a few actions to observe whether the child has the following symptoms. If so, you can consult a specialist for advice to see if further examination is needed:

1. Shoulders vary in height

2. Plate bone imbalance

3. Is the spine straight?
